Welcome to Watervliet's ONLY dog training facility. Unlike traditional dog training centers, we work with BOTH owner and their dog to achieve the desired obiedience. No previous training is required, just a willingness to learn the proper techniques to achieve the desired behavior. We welcome all breeds and ages.

The mission of the K9 Learning Center is to improve the human/canine bond by increasing human knowledge of canine behavior. The Vision of the K9 Learning Center is that the human half of the human/canine team will have an understanding of canine behavior so they may facilitate consistent, desireable behaviors from the canine half of the team.  

On March 31, 2024 Nan Edwards’ Newfoundland Harry earned his CD obedience title which was the final piece needed to achieve his VN. VN stands for Versatile Newfoundland. It is a highly coveted title offered by the Newfoundland Club of America (NCA) and is formally awarded at the annual national show. The NCA requests that the title not be used officially until all title results are reviewed and approved. So Harry is VN (pending) CH Amity’s Wizard Returns to Nicholas Lake CGC TKN TKI RN RA RE WD WRD1 DD CD. To earn a VN, each dog must have a breed ring champion title, junior and senior water dog titles and a draft (carting) dog title plus the already mentioned CD. Over the last five years, there was an average of 7.8 VN’s earned in the nation each year. One of those (in 2022) was earned by Nan’s other Newfoundland, Journey. A VN represents a great deal of hard work, time and love between the dog and handler. Congratulations to this team for being able to join this exclusive club.
